These paintings are a reaction to some of the negative aspects that I perceive within our society today. Apart from the obvious meaning in the "Crack Baby" title, the images of pale white eerie children also represent the future of humanity. Cracked, void mistreated outcasts, disenfranchised "perfect products of society", they sometimes appear with labels on their heads, just as any product in your local supermarket would be labeled, some "Crack Babies" appear with the labels "new" and "free" in their eyes, as if soaking into their minds some of the key words that are used in advertising, but these are not just product labels, they also convey the fact that the babies themselves are "new" to the world and "free" from mans corruption. Some babies appear with barcodes on their foreheads or across their eyes like a sort of blindfold, this is to express the idea that in our consumer driven, advertising bombarded society, we are like products ourselves, taught and conditioned from youth to fit into a system that puts profit before everything else. Other labels appear on their heads as warnings, "fragile handle with care" with the crack in the head splitting the label in two. These warnings have gone unheeded, we have damaged our future, and so some babies also appear with "toxic" or "irritant" warning labels on their heads, expressing the idea that our future society is not only broken, but also toxic and dangerous. The babies have been poisoned and some are angry about this. Many "Crack Babies" appear lurking infront of cities with skyscrapers made form barcodes, again representing our profit driven society, but this time at its peak. The tops of these buildings is where our money ends up, in the pockets of the people who want this system to continue, corrupt fat-cats, bankers and politicians, legal extortionists that award themselves huge salaries and bonuses with the money that society has generated for them, gambling that money on the stock market and sending it crashing down along with our lives and our future..... This is what gave birth to the "Crack Babies" and now the "Crack Kids".... With every news headline of scandal, brutality and corruption, more and more Crack Babies are being born everyday.
